U.S. Senate candidate Dino Rossi, taking questions from tea party groups today, said the Federal Reserve should be audited.
People from both the liberal and conservative side of the political spectrum have been calling for auditing the Fed, the nation’s central bank, which hasn’t revealed details of its bailouts of financial institutions.
The Senate has passed a financial-reform measure that would offer a look at the Fed’s books, though some supporters of an audit said the provision ended up too watered-down.
Rossi was asked, at a tea party gathering near the state Republican convention, if the Fed should be audited or even abolished. He didn’t say what he thought about abolishing the agency.
“Sunshine is what needs to happen here,” he said. “We need to open it up and have a look and audit, step one, and then from there, lets see what’s there.”
