Calling it the “day we’ve all been waiting for,” managers of the planned LeMay car museum have announced the schedule for groundbreaking ceremonies for the Tacoma Dome facility.

First will come a ceremony at the Tacoma Dome between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 10. Then the museum will host an open house and party between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. at 3701 20th St. E in Fife.

The news that triggered the scheduling was the final authorization of a key funding piece for the museum – New Market Tax Credits. The Tacoma City Council approved the final deal with the museum on May 4.

The proposed museum, which is more than 10 years in the making, would display the late Harold E. LeMay’s acclaimed car collection, which now is primarily housed at the former Marymount Military Academy in Spanaway and a warehouse in Fife.

The project’s first phase involves construction of a $20 million collector’s car center on part of what’s now the Tacoma Dome’s parking lot. The city is donating the land for the project.

Here’s what the museum sent out to supporters on Facebook and via Twitter …

Good news – It’s the day we’ve all been waiting for!…As you should see in the special “Groundbreaking Issue” of our En Route newsletter soon (and maybe you’ll see it in the newspapers over the next few days, since they are sending out the press releases now), David Madeira just announced that we’ve received official word from the Underwriter of the New Market Tax Credits that all authorizations have been obtained by all parties to complete the transaction…which means… Save the Date because the Museum will be having their groundbreaking of the new location adjacent to the Tacoma Dome on Thursday June 10th!

More details to be announced soon so please check back.

Excellent! Maybe Jay Leno will donate some of his cars.

I’d also like to see Clive Cusslers Collection, no one seems to mention his extensive and unique collection also.
As for Jay Leno, he can STAY in california….

  3. Trust me, Harold’s got enough cars. They don’t need MORE cars in that museum. This thing won’t even hold all of Harold’s collection!!!!

  4. tiptonvoc says:

What happens to Harold’s non-car collections? And, what about some of Nancy’s stuff, there should be a wing for hers, too!
