Two-term Tacoma city councilwoman Connie Ladenburg has jumped into the race for the House seat being vacated by Steve Conway.

Ladenburg, who represented much of the area on the council, said she has lived in the 29th District from more than 30 years.

“I am excited by the prospect of serving my community and working on the issues that affect families most such as job growth, education and public safety,” she said.

She described her qualifications this way: former PTA President, co-Founder and member of the Alliance for Youth of Pierce County, founding member of Communities in Schools, Tacoma, sponsor of the Domestic Violence policy for the Tacoma Police Department, sponsor of the law that strengthened previous laws regarding the sale of drug paraphernalia, helped designate the Pacific Avenue corridor as a SOAP area (Stay Out of Area of Prostitution), secured funding to re-establish the Gang Task force and secured funding for a new police station in South Tacoma.

Conway said earlier this week that he’ll run for the district’s senate seat which became open when longtime incumbent Rosa Franklin said she would retire. The district has been Democratic since the Great Depression.
