A retired teacher from Northeast Tacoma is challenging state Rep. Jeannie Darneille.

Republican Jon Higley became involved in political activism when he founded the Tacoma 9/12 Project, based on an initiative of Fox News personality Glenn Beck and focused on principles of limited government in the Constitution. He’s stepped down from the group to run for the Legislature.

“Our state government is openly ignoring the will of the people, over-turning an initiative and raising taxes during this difficult economy is just the latest example,” he said in a news release.

The 27th is a solid Democratic district, but Higley said he thinks voters are looking for a change this year and want fiscal responsibility. “The ‘Progressives’ have carried Washington State and Washington D.C. way too far to the left,” he said.

JON HIGLEY ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR STATE REPRESENTATIVE -DIST 27, POS. 2

Tacoma, Washington, April 30, 2010 — Long time resident of Northeast Tacoma and GOP activist Jon Higley is reaching out to voters who want a change from the unbridled spending in our state government. Mr. Higley is seeking your vote to elect him to the District 27, Position 2 seat in the Washington State Legislature.

Jon Higley says: “Our state government is openly ignoring the will of the people, over-turning an initiative and raising taxes during this difficult economy is just the latest example. I am running to represent the people, not the state government and its special interests. I intend to listen to your input and make your voices heard. As a long-time resident of Northeast Tacoma and a retired teacher after 30 years, I am ready to serve the 27th Legislative District.”

You can visit: www.higleyforhouse.us to look at Jon’s platform. He has been active in the 27th District for many years serving in the County GOP and as a precinct committee officer. He is also the founder of The Tacoma 9/12 Project, a community group based on 9 Principles and 12 Values and inspired by radio talk show host Glenn Beck. www.tacoma912project.org. Jon has stepped down from this group to run for State Representative because he feels so strongly that Washington State needs to become a business friendly, lower taxed state where growth, opportunity, and prosperity abound. Jon’s common sense approach to solving problems would be a welcome addition to our State Legislature.

Running against the Number 18 “Big Spender” in the State Legislature (according to the Evergreen Freedom Foundation’s “Big Spenders” list) this is going to be a challenging race. The incumbent, Jeannie Darneille, carried virtually every 27th District precinct in November 2008. However, much has changed since then. If “We the People” don’t want ten years of high umemployment and rising costs of government, similar to what happened during the FDR great depression era, then we must act now to elect conservative, responsible leaders like JON HIGLEY to represent us. Your financial and volunteer support is needed to make this change! Less government means – Growth, Opportunity and Prosperity. Less government means more freedom.

Remember the name – JON HIGLEY for State Representative – we need fiscally responsible leaders in Olympia for the 2011 legislative session. The “Progressives” have carried Washington State and Washington D.C. way too far to the left. Change starts at home and it is time to get “Back to Basics” with JON HIGLEY for State Representative.

  1. Oh. Wow. This’ll be, um, fun to watch?

The battle lines are drawn. The question, really, is whether anybody is going to watch.

  3. jgardner1 says:

This is great news. We need someone who will bring common sense back to the state legislature. Taxing the poor during a recession is the worst idea ever.

I am so glad a person like this is running. Principles before parties!!!! I had the pleasure of meeting him, and I think this is one STAND UP GUY! He has a lot of good ideas and principles to live by. Check him out and see if he is the right candidate for you.(27th district)

Jon Higley was my 4th grade teacher and a colleague of mine when I worked in the Fed Way District. Very liked as a teacher and a staff member and he will do everyone right if elected to this position.
