The Democrats’ budget-deal details are out, and spending for public schools and universities are among the $755 million in budget cuts outlined in the latest version of Senate Bill 6444, the operating budget.

The budget eliminates another $79 million in contributions to class-size reductions for K-12 schools and spends $73 million less for colleges, $30 million less for other class-size enhancements and $15 million by cutting a learning-improvement day for public-school teachers. On the other side, it adds $30 million in levy equalization funding for cash-poor school districts and adds $65 million for state-government workers’ health care.
