Realtors’ ads slam taxes; pro-tax coalition fighting back

Post by Brad Shannon / The Olympian on April 10, 2010 at 6:27 am |

Washington Realtors are running radio ads and full-page newspaper ads in The Olympian today [Saturday] and Seattle Times on Sunday. They argue against Democrats’ move in the Legislature to include realty businesses in the $800 million tax package.

The ads come as beverage-industry interests have gone to the radio to fight a higher beer tax or a tax on soda pop — a potential preview of the fall election debate if a tax challenge lands on the ballot. Not to be outdone, the pro-tax Rebuilding Our Economic Future Coalition is using radio ads to support beverage taxes as part of a revenue package that avoids cuts to public schools, college programs and student aid, and health care for kids and the elderly.
