U.S. EDUCATION SECRETARY TO ANNOUNCE PHASE 1 RACE TO THE TOP WINNERS DURING CONFERENCE CALL
U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will announce Phase 1 winners of the Department’s $4.35 billion Race to the Top competition during a press conference call with reporters at 1:30 p.m. EDT Monday, March 29. A press release announcing the winners will be posted on the Department’s Website, www.ed.gov , at 1 p.m. EDT Monday.

Washington didn’t take part in the first round of the competition to divvy up $4.3 billion in federal stimulus money to state’s that or the most-innovative in reforming public education.

But the winners will be examined to see what catches the eye of the U.S. Department of Education to help Washington and the first-round losers compete in a second round this summer.

Here’s a look at the finalists.
