Bruce Lachney, an airline pilot and cranberry farmer from Eatonville, announced this morning he will run against state Rep. Jim McCune, R-Graham, in the 2nd District.

“With unemployment at 10% and 25% of our high school students not graduating, Olympia is not getting the job done,” said Lachney, a Democrat. “I want to take my experience as a businessman, a school board director, and a technical college trustee and bring a new focus on results to our state capitol.”

Lachney 50, is a former Marine Corps captain who has been a pilot for Delta Airlines since 1986. He has served on the Pierce County Planning Commission and the Eatonville School Board.

In 2008 he ran unsuccessfully for the Pierce County Council against Roger Bush, R-Graham.

Eatonville-Former U.S. Marine Bruce Lachney announced today he will run for State Representative from the 2nd District. He will run for Position One which is currently held by Jim McCune.

“With unemployment at 10% and 25% of our high school students not graduating, Olympia is not getting the job done. I want to take my experience as a businessman, a school board director, and a technical college trustee and bring a new focus on results to our state capitol,” said Lachney.

Bruce Lachney is a lifelong northwest native. He was born in Seattle in 1960 and received his degree from the University of Washington in 1980.  Bruce was a captain in the United States Marine Corps serving as a jet pilot. Lachney did  two tours to the Far East and a deployment in Somalia. Since 1986, Bruce has been an airline pilot for Delta Airlines flying the Boeing 737-800.

Bruce is also one of only 850 Ocean Spray cranberry growers in America. His farm in Eastern Pierce County also produces rhubarb, cattle, timber and hay for local markets.

“We’ve got to stop partisan posturing and petty bickering. I think the people of the 2nd District deserve someone who will make government work by holding agencies accountable and balancing our state budget like families do,” said Lachney.

Bruce lives on his cranberry farm in Eatonville with his wife,  Ann and their two children.
