Gov. Chris Gregoire is getting re-involved in the debate over who should be covered by a constitutional amendment to restrict bail.
Gregoire met with sponsors of the proposed bail limits today to try to work out a deal.
Sen. Mike Carrell said Gregoire’s office is writing up a new version of the bill with a new approach to determining which suspects should be denied bail.
The governor’s office floated the original – and so far most sweeping – version that would have given discretion to judges about whom to lock up. That one has long since been abandoned by House and Senate, but Carrell said the new version also takes a hard line.
“I think it’s going to be a pretty tough one,” he said.
