Saying Democrats have held the 27th District for too long, Eastside Tacoma resident Dale Woodard said he’ll file to run for a vacant House seat.

“Democrats have held the seat since 1962, the year I was born,” Woodard says in an announcement. “It is time for new ideas to solve the issues that we face in the 27th District and in Washington State. We need to make the right changes to keep our citizens safe, to improve our educational system and make our state’s economy strong again.”

According to the announcement, Woodard majored in computer science at Pacific Lutheran University and is currently self-employed as an I.T. consultant. He is married and has three children.

Longtime Tacoma Port Commissioner Bob Earley briefly held one of the two House seats as a Republican, serving one term from 1963 to 1965. Since then, a series of Democrats have represented the district. The vacancy was created when Rep. Dennis Flannigan decided not to seek a fifth term.

Here’s Woodard’s website.
