Dennis Flannigan won’t seek re-election to Legislature

State Rep. Dennis Flannigan, D-Tacoma, has announced he will not seek re-election this year.

Nathe Lawver, chairman of the Pierce County Democratic Party, just shared this e-mail from Flannigan:

Dear Democratic Friends,

IT’S TRUE!

Dear 27th District Democrat, and friend:

What’s true? It is true I am not planning to return to the Washington State Legislature in 2011.

I am not running for the legislature in the 27th District, and want anyone interested in running to learn by this email what has been a long pondered decision, but in the end, and easy decision.

I have no plans to endorse a candidate, nor to campaign vigorously in 2010. I plan to remain in the legislature through my term, and make this opportunity for someone new, someone with health and insight and energy the chance to assist the state to recover its economy, and advance education, business, environment to new levels of success yet unimagined.

I thank all who have supported me, all who worked against me for their causes, and every resident in the 27th that struggles with the ways to help our county, communities and neighborhoods prosper, celebrate their successes and build an infrastructure that guides generations to come in how well Washington State governs.

Bring your energies to the task, find good candidates, urge them to run for office, and then dedicate yourselves to supporting them like you have supported me, and continue to support Sen. Regala and Rep. Darneille. They are two remarkably talented and respected legislators.

My best,

Dennis (D) 27th District, Position 1
