Auditor puts up election results quickly, praises her office almost as quickly

She’s just a few months into her tenure, but Pierce County Auditor Julie Anderson for the most part has made good on her 2009 campaign promise not to personalize the auditor’s office with her name and face.

That didn’t stop her from quickly praising her office after the county posted its first batch of election results Tuesday night. The posting came about 45 minutes earlier than the first release last November (when there was quite a lot more on the ballot, by the way).

Anderson said in her statement:

I asked the Elections team to think outside the box and come up with a solution to provide the public, the campaigns and the media with results earlier in the evening. Staff reworked their procedures to produce election results quickly and accurately. Rest assured all safeguards remain in place to fully vet the returns prior to release.

And then:

I’m proud that our team could find ways to improve the delivery of election results to the citizens of Pierce County. I want voters to know as soon as possible that their participation made a difference.

Election results were posted at 8:07 p.m. Anderson’s “attaway” press release hit our in-boxes at the TNT at 8:12 p.m.
