I just received this “out of office” reply to an email I sent to Tacoma Mayor Bill Baarsma:

Mayor Baarsma

Because of term limits, on January 1, 2010 I am no longer serving as Tacoma’s Mayor.

Marilyn Strickland is the newly elected Mayor and all correspondence should be directed to her.

Thank you,

Bill Baarsma

If only Norm Dicks and the rest of the career politicians could be forced to leave similar messages.

  2. Mr. Mayor:,
I feel that you honestly did the best job that you could do under pressure.
Here’s what I feel that you could have done to approve your rating, the job and make us a more livable mid-sized Town.
    1. Scrap the LID program on a short-term (two years) basis. This will return that 20% taken from Street Repairs for 2 years and give the street repair crews som much needed help over the Summer.
    2. Last year, at the suggestion of a citizen, it was brought up to train new Parking Enforcement in and around the Westgate Shopping Centers. Instead of Volunteers, We were told The City would hire 2 new Enforcement Officers. We haven’t seen them.
Thank you for your service to our great City, Mr. Bar
    3. I for one would like to see a new amendment to the City Code that would prohibit ALL temporary signs from the City Right-of-Way, fences, shrubbery, streets and Median dividers. During this past election, I counted 420 signs in one Median divider. Some were knocked over and were in a neighbor’s yard. Even at this point, campaign signs can be seen blowing about the neighborhood. How about limiting them to private property where a homeowner or renter can display them with pride and demonstrate his support for their campaign?
Thank you so very much, Mr, Mayor for your service to our fine City. You will be missed.
