Advisory committee starts work Thursday on Narrows Bridge tolls for July 2010

The first meeting of the citizen advisory committee will be Thursday night in Gig Harbor.

As I reported last week, the state collected about $1 million more than it expected in the first three months of the fiscal year — July, August, September — so there no longer is a rush to jack up the tolls from the current $4 cash and $2.75 transponder tolls now on the bridge for 2-axle vehicles.

I’m told the state transportation commissioners want there to be at least a 25-cent differential next year between the transponder tolls and the tolls paid by those who stop at toll booths. That is, they want it to be slightly cheaper for those who get transponders and pay their tolls electronically.
