U.S. Rep. Adam Smith is in Bethesda Naval Hospital today after doctors repaired a collapsed lung. The Washington Democrat is expected to make a full recovery, his office said in a statement.
On Thursday, the Washington Democrat experienced some pain and tension in his right side and visited the House Physician’s Office. He was referred to the Bethesda hospital where doctors diagnosed him with a collapsed lung. The lung was later re-inflated.
Mike Amato, a Smith spokesman, said it was a congenital problem his boss was born with and was somehow aggravated. The congressman could be released from the hospital as early as tonight.
