Mitt Romney to speak at Washington GOP convention

It isn't until next summer, but the state Republican convention has already scored a pretty big speaker – former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

That's what The Columbian is reporting here.

The convention is set for June in Vancouver.

Romney is a once and probably future candidate for the GOP nomination for president. Mid-year conventions are a typical time for candidates to make more-casual visits around the country but it isn't often that the state scores a front-runner like this.

The Republicans have come up with a new primary schedule that divides up the states into rotating blocks. If I had to guess, our group is up to bat first and the caucus system favors more hands on organization rather than big media buys to broader audiences.

By the way, New Hampshire and Iowa are safe in their role determining who the rest of us get to pick from. They are exempted from the change in format.
