MEGA MILLIONS SOARS
TO $333 MILLION!
Jackpot now the fourth largest in North American history
OLYMPIA – Sales are so brisk that the Mega Millions jackpot has been raised from $325 million to $333 million for tonight’s drawing. The rise now makes this Mega Millions jackpot the fourth largest in North American history. Mega Millions holds the record for the largest North American jackpot; a record jackpot was set in March of 2007 at $390 million.
A jackpot this high means sales are heating up at Lottery retailers around Washington. Customers are buying tickets all across the state, and ticket sales are becoming more rapid during peak times like noon lunch hours and drive time.
The Mega Millions jackpot rolled on Tuesday night when no one matched all six winning numbers that were drawn. A Washington winner in tonight’s drawing would be Washington’s largest Lottery winner ever. Dick Warren of Hoquiam currently holds the record for winning the largest Mega Millions jackpot in Washington—$93 million claimed in November 2002.
Mega Millions is the multi-state lottery game and Washington is one of twelve participating states including Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Texas, Ohio, Virginia and California. The Mega Millions jackpot starts at $12 million and, if unclaimed, keeps growing until one lucky winner becomes a "Mega Millionaire" by matching five numbers from a field of 56 and one number from a field of 46 (the MEGA Ball).
Mega Millions sales will continue until 7:45 p.m. (PST) tonight. Mega Millions drawings are at 8 p.m. (PST) every Tuesday and Friday night and tickets cost $1. Winning numbers can be checked through Check-a-Ticket, a self-service, automated system available at more than 1,500 Lottery retail locations around the state. Players can also access winning numbers information via the Lottery’s website at www.walottery.com, the Mega Millions web site at www.megamillions.com, the Winning Numbers Line (1-800-545-7510), local newspapers and local television news programming, or at all Lottery retail locations.
