ChangMook Sohn has Gary Locke in his camp, but Jim McIntire has lots of lesser stars as both go for state treasurer job

You could see this news release coming out of Jim McIntire‘s camp after ChangMook Sohn started running those radio ads last week. Sohn got former Gov. Gary Locke to sing his praises and endorse him in the radio spots that I heard on KOMO 1000.

Sohn and McIntire are running as Democrats and one of them is likely to face Republican Allan Martin, now deputy treasurer, in the general election.

UPDATE: McIntire’s campaign manager says he has former governor endorsements, too.

Joe,

I just saw the post.

Just as an FYI the "thee former Governors" who support Jim are:

Former Governor Booth Gardner

Former Governor Mike Lowry

Former Governor Al Rosellini

Gregoire has not made an endorsement. A list of our endorsements in full can be found here http://www.jimmcintire.com/default.aspx?ID=3

Have a good one.

Andrew

McIntire has a bunch of local names — Tacoma Mayor Bill Baarsma, Pierce County executive John Ladenburg, etc. — that he’s ballyhooing on this eve of the primary election, plus the state labor council and teachers’ union.

Local Officials Endorse McIntire for State Treasurer

Several elected officials from Pierce County have announced their support for State Representative Jim McIntire in his bid for State Treasurer.

Tacoma Mayor Bill Baarsma said that he has known McIntire since their days working together for Governor Booth Gardner, and has worked with McIntire on several legislative issues affecting the Tacoma area finances, infrastructure and economy. "Jim knows the financial challenges facing local governments," said Baarsma. "As Treasurer I know he will work with local governments and the legislature to protect taxpayer investments and develop a plan to finance important transportation and infrastructure projects."

In addition to Mayor Baarsma and Tacoma City Councilmember Julie Anderson, the following Pierce County officials have endorsed McIntire for Treasurer: Executive John Ladenburg, Assessor/Treasurer Ken Madsen, Auditor Pat McCarthy, and Commissioners Cal Goings and Tim Farrell. McIntire has received the endorsement of State Representatives Steve Conway, Steve Kirby, Dennis Flannigan, Jeannie Darneille, Dawn Morrell, Joyce McDonald, Tom Campbell, Tami Green, Christopher Hurst, Pat Lance, and Larry Seaquist. In the State Senate, McIntire is endorsed by Senators Rosa Franklin, Debbie Regala, Jim Kastama, Claudia Kauffman, and Derek Kilmer.

McIntire has represented north Seattle in the state legislature for the past 10 years where he chaired the House Finance Committee and the state Economic and Revenue Forecast Council. He earned his PhD in economics at the University of Washington, where he has taught economics and government for the past 25 years. McIntire has also maintained a private sector consulting practice with a national company for several years.

"Jim has earned the respect of both sides of the isle in the legislature," said Rep. Conway. "His experience in the private sector, financial knowledge, and leadership on economic and fiscal issues is just what our state needs in the Treasurer’s Office during these uncertain financial times."

"I’m honored to have the support of local leaders like Mayor Baarsma and Rep. Conway," said McIntire. "These are the kind of constructive relationships that will help us develop a long term plan to finance the schools, transportation systems and local infrastructure we need to keep our economy growing and moving forward."

Jim McIntire is also the official nominee of the State Democratic party and is endorsed by the Washington State Labor Council, Washington Credit Union League, the Washington Education Association, three former Governors, House Speaker Frank Chopp, Senate Majority Leader Lisa Brown, a bi-partisan majority of the legislature, and business and environmental leaders from across the state.
