U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell is coming to Tacoma on Tuesday. She plans to hold a news conference to talk about her efforts to hold corporations accountable for environmental cleanups so that taxpayers aren’t left holding the bag.
She’s particularly concerned about the outcome of Asarco’s bankruptcy.
Here’s the press release:
Cantwell Holds Press Conference to Discuss Hazardous Waste Cleanup Laws
TACOMA, WA – Tuesday, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) will hold a press conference to highlight concerns regarding corporations that are not complying with current hazardous waste cleanup laws and making sure the Department of Justice (DOJ) evaluates the environmental records of all bidding entities. Cantwell is sending a letter to the Attorney General Michael Mukasey regarding the reorganization of ASARCO in the pending Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Cantwell has long worked to put a stop to corporations unjustly evading cleanup responsibility at polluted sites and handing their cleanup bills to the taxpayers.
