I know Will Roehl from the Fish and Wildlife Commission, and also because he is husband of state Rep. Kelli Linville, D-Bellingham.

If you’re going to get appointed to a board or commission in state government, growth management hearings board is the one to get. Not many pay a real salary, and the hearings board jobs pay the most, or close to it. It’s more than $95,000 a year.

Governor Gregoire appoints Will Roehl to Western Washington Growth Management Hearings Board

OLYMPIA – Gov. Chris Gregoire today announced the appointment of Will Roehl to the Western Washington Growth Management Hearings Board, effective June 1, 2008. The appointment expires June 30, 2014.

Growth Management Hearings Boards determine if local policy choices or actions comply with the goals and requirements of the Growth Management Act.

Roehl, 60, is an attorney in Whatcom County. He will replace Margery Hite of Bow who resigned to take another position.

"Will has extensive experience dealing with growth planning and zoning issues," Gregoire said. "He will be a skilled and impartial judge of the important issues that come before the board."

Roehl served on the Whatcom County Council from 1979 until 1991. During most of his time on the council he was a member of the Planning and Development committee, which was tasked with updating the county’s comprehensive plan and zoning ordinances.

Roehl also has served as a member of the Washington State Fish and Wildlife Commission since 1997, focusing his attention on balancing the desires of the recreational and commercial fisheries, expanding recreational opportunities and protecting and improving fish and wildlife habitat.

The Bellingham native graduated from Whitman College with a Bachelor of Arts in economics and received his law degree from the University of Puget Sound. Roehl has been practicing law since 1975, with a focus on civil issues. He also served in the Whatcom County Board of Freeholders in 1978-1979. Roehl is married to state Representative Kelli Linville.

The position is fulltime and pays $95,384 annually.
