Television Washington, aka TVW, broadcasts some legislative hearings live. Others, it tapes and plays on its cable stations later.
Last Thursday, Rep. Geoff Simpson, D-Covington, was presiding over a hearing of the House Local Government Committee and blurted out “Hi Coco” as a witness was coming up to testify.
“Coco is a friend of mine and she just text-messaged me that she wanted me to say ‘hi’ to her on live TV,” Simpson explained.
The witness who testified right after Simpson’s greeting, Eric Johnson of the Washington State Assocation of Counties, didn’t miss a beat.
“Hi Coco,” Johnson said.
Simpson said Friday that Coco is the 13-year-old daughter of a friend who was home ill on Thursday and was watching TVW. “She was thrilled with it,” he said.
We, on the other hand, have serious concerns. Sick or not, what teenage girl watches TVW?
