The missing records…vinyl that is

Contractors working on the renovation of a gym on Joint Base Lewis-McChord stumbled on box after box of stored records last week, vinyl records with names like Bing Crosby and Gene Autry on them.
The 30 boxes of 16-inch records, known as transcriptions, were found in a long storage closet where it is believed they were stored 40-years ago.
“It really sheds light on an era here at Fort Lewis that has largely been forgotten,” said Dale Sadler, the assistant cultural resource manager at Joint Base Lewis – McChord. “These records were part of the Madigan radio station’s library.”
The recordings were made by the War Department during WWII and were used by the Armed Forces Radio Network and Television network. The disks feature artists of the day as well as recordings of works by classical composers in addition to western and religious music, Sadler said.
