Every now and then, an elected official does something surprising. Take Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Seattle, for example.
Rightly considered one of the House’s most liberal members, McDermott was one of only 12 Dems who voted against rebuking Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., for yelling “You lie!” at President Barack Obama.
According to the Associated Press, McDermott said the vote “does not further the process of civility in the House.” He noted that Wilson apologized to the president and the president accepted it.
