This poll has a clear winner (Spoiler alert: It’s Obama)

Forget Gallup, Pew, Rasmussen and the other polls. They all show either a dead heat between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney or Obama slightly ahead – but still within the margin of error.

Over at 7-Eleven, there’s no such wishy-washiness. Its “abashedly unscientific” poll, which has predicted the winner in the last three presidential races, shows Obama clearly out in front: 58 to 42 percent as of Wednesday afternoon.

Customers make their preference known by buying their drinks in either a blue Obama cup or a red Romney cup.

Click here to check out its red state/blue state map. Click on individual states to see how 7-Eleven customers voted there.

Washington is slightly more pro-Obama than the national average: 60 to 40 percent. Romney is running ahead of Obama in only four states: Idaho, West Virginia, South Carolina and New Hampshire. Not in Utah? That’s surprising. And the crucial battleground state of Ohio – which no Republican winner has ever lost – is staunchly pro-Obama at 67 to 42 percent.

It should be noted that a whole swath of Southern states are among those where 7-Elevens are not participating in the informal poll, which likely affects the results quite a bit.

If you’d like to participate, you can vote for free on Friday. Participating 7-Elevens are celebrating CofFREE Day, one day before National Coffee Day, by inviting customers to have a free large coffee, cappuccino, latte or tea while supplies last between 6 and 10 a.m.

  1. “Not in Utah?”

Mormons are prohibited from drinking hot caffeinated drinks like tea and coffee, and most Mormons also avoid cold caffeinated drinks. Only apostates and Gentiles in Utah drink such. Cuts way down on LDS votes by cup.

Good point! That had not occurred to me.
