No Chick-fil-A here to boycott

Ever since it became known that Chick-fil-A President and CEO Dan Cathy is a big donor to campaigns against same-sex marriage, his critics have pushed for a boycott of the chain. But even if you wanted to participate in either the boycott or the anti-boycott, you couldn’t do it in this neck of the woods. The closest location is in Boise, Idaho.

The chain is more a Southern thing, and I have to say I’m kind of addicted to their “classic” chicken sandwich. I’ve always dropped into one of its locations when I go back to Florida to visit friends. Chick-fil-A and Sonny’s (a Southern barbecue chain) are my two must-haves in the Sunshine State. There’s also a Chick-fil-A near the Mariners’ spring training facility in Peoria.

If you’ve never had a Chick-fil-A sandwich, the closest alternative is McDonald’s Southern-style chicken sandwich. It’s just chicken breast and two pickle slices on a bun (ask for mayo). When it first came out, I recognized it for what it is: a total ripoff of Chick-fil-A. But when you can’t have the original . . .

Another alternative is to cook your own. Apparently this recipe comes pretty close, but it looks like a lot of work to me. I’ll stick with McD’s version.

Since this broohaha started, I have purposely sought out Chick-fil-a restaurants near where I am now working (North Central Kentucky) to give them my business. I frirmly stand with the CEO of this company. Our nation has changed, not in a good way since my days growing up.

  2. We’ve become a nation of freaks and freeloaders aided and abetted by the liberal media telling the afflicted that they re normal. Holding a protest kiss in and graffiti against a private enterprise like chic fil a just illustrates the demented meanor of these “uphill gardeners”

Only Americans could turn eating or not eating fast food into a political protests.

Which is it- no Chick-a-Fil or no “french” fries? I can’t keep my boycotts straight. Are we allowed to eat grapes yet? Or are we supposed to boycott Boise?

  5. I’ve frequented C-F-A many times since one opened nearby where i live in So.Calif last year. And i will continue to do so. I could care less who kisses who at these “kiss-in’s” or what the CEO’s personal feelings are.

Gotta love the gay community, they always preach tolerance. But have a different opinion from their’s and they show intolerance.

It seems like kind of an insult to compare the juicy Chick-fil-a sandwich to the McDonalds imitation. I tried one a while back and realized that paying in the $4 range for a McChicken that’s just had the condiments scraped off it was not a satisfying prospect.
