Candidate’s ‘official response’ to TNT editorial board

This time of year, we’re busy inviting candidates to interview with us for the editorial board’s endorsement in the Aug. 7 primary. Most candidates accept, while others decline due to schedule conflicts.

Occasionally we get a candidate who, essentially, tells us where we can stick our endorsement. Here’s a colorful response we received from candidate Stephan Brodhead, a candidate for the 6th Congressional District seat being vacated by Norm Dicks. I don’t see any problem sharing it with blog readers as it is titled “Official Response from Brodhead For Congress.”

Dear Cheryl,

I stand on my resume, lineage to the “Founding fathers”, lineage to epic legislation, decades of diligent military service, worldwide aviator status, environmental stewardship, and demonstrative small business acumen.

I am an enlisted man who clawed and worked for everything. I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth. I did not inherit my net worth like Bill Driscoll. I am not an Oxford trained Ivy League elitist who never created a job like the bureaucratic socialist Derek Kilmer. I am a conservative who believes in limited government, a strong military, and the private sector.

I have never subscribed to the Tacoma News Tribune or used their classified or advertising services. I found their classified ad cost to be ridiculously priced, and I use Craigslist to advertise my rentals. I use Google to get my news; hence, asking for an endorsement from your obsolete “Obama Yellow Press” makes no sense whatsoever.

Given the amount of trees that are destroyed for newspapers I don’t condone or support your paper version of The Tacoma News Tribune. In addition, I will not allow the News Tribune Editorial Board to determine the equity of my personal contributions to society or my worth as a candidate for Congress.  I consider your editorial board as simply glorified liberal leaning content less bloggers that use antiquated environmentally unfriendly technology.  Just  endorse Kilmer the socialist or Driscoll the tree killer…..

My positions and BIO can be read on my website: www.BrodheadforCongress.net

Good day!!!

Stephan Brodhead

More guys like this should run for office. Less liberal pab and more down-to-earth practical sense – and we’ll all be better off.

I believe this response from this clown determines his immaturity to hold office as he feels so entitled to insult the readers of the News Tribune and the paper itself.

With all due respect to his service to the country, his support of “a strong military” inherently implies support for big government spending and the biggest public industry. Clearly the military is the epitome of public industry and is an important aspect of the district. By the way the military is most socialist institution in these great United States of America – it is also the greatest military in the history of the world.

While its honorable to seek public service, this response is humorous at best. From the numerous contradictions in his response, Brodhead seems more inclined to try to tear down government than to contribute anything positive.

  3. Are you sure this wasn’t actually written by RR Anderson?

    what a dud

  5. Awesome and well-written. Wish I lived in his district. He’d definitely have my vote. And Cheryl-a newfound respect for you and your “editorial” board for actually printing this. Whatever your motives were for printing it, I have to give you kudos for allowing an opposing viewpoint to your liberal bents to be published in your newspaper.

“lineage to epic legislation.” Someone went to the Newt Gingrich School of Subtlety.
