Today is 4/20, which has been described as the unofficial holiday for pot smokers.

So here’s my question: Isn’t every day an unofficial holiday for pot smokers?

Why is 4/20 so special to potheads, and what does it have to do with Louis Pasteur? Go here to find out.

Today provides an opportunity for Washington citizens to reflect on the policy of marijuana prohibition. That 4/20 exists as a quasi-holiday is testament, just as is every bong filled smoke shop, that marijuana prohibition is not working and is largely unsupported.

After 40 years of concentrated effort, billions of dollars spent, thousands of lives lost and thousands more ruined by marijuana prohibition–not from marijuana itself–it’s time to try something different.

We are leading the way. In November we will have the opportunity to legalize, tax, and regulate the huge marijuana industry in our state. Find out what marijuana prohibition costs us and why the sponsors of I-502 are asking you to vote to end prohibition at the New Approach Washington website.

I find it amusing to listen to the anti-pot crowd rail against the “dangers” of marijuana use as they puff on a cigarette while sipping their third drink. Those who equate the casual, recreational marijuana user with the “Cheech and Chong” or “Spicoli” stereotype would, I think, be surprised at how many of their “respectable” friends and neighbors still enjoy an occasional joint.

Thanks for several honest and factual comments. I suspect we will hear from the resident self-righteous prohibition narcissists who can’t rise above fictional movie stereotypes and seem oblivious to the fact that they have been conditioned to start from a negative premise and will never look at prohibition objectively and understand the origins of it (the who and the why) and whether there is any modern justification for the trillion plus dollars (yes trillion) we have spent and the results and constitutionality of prohibition vs. actual causational harm of cannabis use by adults.

It is also an excellent day for for teachers/WEA members to surreptitiously slander students.
