There is a difference between going on strike and declining to work without a contract.

P-T the falut with your 5-1 ratio is that most of the 5 are not quilified to teach.

Do what they should have done in 1979 and fire them all. There are 5 applicants for every job out there. Time to cut the losers loose and hire those that want to work. End of story.

Given the current economic situation and the option to start school with the expired contract, I will be truly embarrassed of Tacoma teachers if the 80% of union members required to approve a strike actually vote in favor of one.

and parents will pay for daycare either now or next june/july. I’m in agreement that they should work without a contract and negotiate until it’s settled – however, let’s be honest, no one is holding anybody hostage. Worst case scenario is a month long strike and the school year extends until July 31 of next year….oh no! At least then the teachers will have felt some pain themselves. Doubtful many of them can last a month without income.

Whatever your opinion of a strike, I hope you will be respectful to teachers when speaking to your own kids about this. You aren’t doing them any favors academically if you create an atmosphere of disrespect and scorn.

Once again the editorial board of the TNT is confused.

They appear to continue to believe that the Tacoma Public School System exists for the benefit of kids and parents. This is no longer true. Publicly funded schools have devolved into employment agencies that operate to maximize the employment of adults for a maximum of pay for a minimum of effort.

Given this new reality, expect an illegal strike as originally planned by the WEA to begin September 1.

Do not support the self centered teachers. All Parents should meet the teachers on the picket line and express their extreme displeasure with the teachers making hostages out of your kids.
