Dumb and dumber in Olympia

Let us devoutly hope that the bad blood in Olympia over vandalism doesn’t escalate into a petty tit-for-tat cycle of reprisal.

Some anonymous idiot Tuesday night broke several windows of the apartment of a self-described anarchist, Daniel Kyle Wilson. Two days earlier, The News Tribune and The Olympian newspaper had featured Wilson in a front-page article on anarchism.

Running with the story was a photograph of Wilson throwing a rock at a bank window during a 2008 May Day march in Olympia. The photographer was The Olympian’s Tony Overman, whose house was recently vandalized, apparently by fudge-brained radicals angered by the fact that police used his photos to prosecute Wilson and others.

It appears that Wilson was given the Overman treatment by someone who read the article and decided to reward vandalism with more vandalism. Brilliant: That kind of eye-for-an-eye logic drives half the violence in the world.

Wilson in fact had already been convicted of his crimes and done jail time. Case closed. Anyone who insists on visiting additional personal “justice” on him is no better than the self-anointed political messiahs who resort to thuggery because they can’t get the world to take them seriously.

Don’t like the way violence-prone arrested adolescents act? Don’t act like them.

Perhaps, or perhaps this moron did it to himself to create some sympathy. This guy doesn’t seem too interested in having this event investigated (based on earlier articles).

    Good call, Richard.

Unlikely that anybody but the perp himself committed these additional acts of vandalism. Kind of like the the woman down in Vancouver who claimed that someone threw acid in her face and it turned out the woman splashed acid on her own face to get some sympathy.

O’ Callahan seems pretty eager to believe this miscreants story.

  3. LOL, wonder if there is any video of Wilson throwing the rocks or bricks through his own window. Sounds like something one of these morons would do.

I am not without my suspicions. That’s why the “it appears …” is in there.

  5. Very glad to hear you saw below the surface :) Patrick. You must have been the mind behind the Inslee investment in business scheme piece the other week as well.

  6. nwcolorist says:

I wonder, if the Tribune hadn’t singled out Wilson , would the vandalism have occurred?

  7. tree_guy says:

This column makes no sense unless the writer knows for a fact that the victim himself didn’t perpetrate the vandalism.

There’s no evidence of any reprisal, eye-for-an-eye justice, tit for tat, or dumb and dumber. No evidence that the window breaker ever read the newspaper or knew who lived in the house.

All we have is a narcissitic twit who seems to revel in the attention our society pays to bad boys. Maybe he fancies himself to be the next barefoot bandit and is just trying to keep the headlines alive by continuing his crime streak.

Patrick bought this sympathy bid, hook, line and sinker…who does he really think broke those windows?
