Wishing you had a Merry Christmas

Did you have a Merry Christmas? I suppose that answer depends on your point of view.

If you’re a retail corporation then you certainly did. Economists predict a very healthy shopping season, up at least 3-4 % locally and as much as 5% nationally over last year. Not bad for a legal entity that lacks even Ebeneezer’s shred of a soul. I say good for you.

If you’re a soldier spending Christmas night deployed in a volatile area, it is possible you did not. I can only hope you were warm and surrounded by friends. May you be home soon.

If you’re unemployed and filling your children’s Christmas list with the kindness of strangers, it must have been filled with worry and stress. May it comfort you to remember that those who give often receive much. When times get better, and they will, I hope you have the opportunity of returning that kindness.

If you were working the streets in a patrol car, walking the halls of a hospital, ringing a Salvation Army Bell or standing behind the cash register at an all night gas station, thanks for being there.

Whether your Christmas was joyous or tinged with sadness, I hope you spent it with friends and family.

If not, then God Bless You.
