Matt Richardson weighs in

Matt Richardson, the embattled challenger of incumbent state Sen. Pam Roach in the 31st Legislative District, sent us this as a potential letter to the editor. We don’t print candidate letters in the letters blog or in the print edition, but we thought in might be of interest to Inside Opinion readers. We endorsed Roach in the Nov. 2 general election over fellow Republican Richardson.

Here is Richardson’s e-mail.

As the ballots are being mailed this week, I remain curious to know if you are interested in salvaging your collective integrity with an article about my qualifications and employment history over the last 16 years. My record speaks for itself…I am more qualified to be in the senate that Roach was when she was first elected in 1990, and now. What about what I’ve done for the public in elected office, on Council ,or as an employee in the state house and senate? What about as a Congressional staffer? What about the schools I’ve worked for that have given me several letters of recommendation. Anything? Well, they will be on my mailers and website very soon. Ones from Congress, State Senate, State House, schools, everything.

Unfortunately for the voters, it appears you want to dwell on allegations that have not led to one founded charge against me. On the other hand, Roach has a record of reprimands and sanctions after 5 outside or bi-partisan INVESTIGATIONS have found her in violation of several senate codes and protocols since 1998. She is currently under two of them now, yet you act like you don’t know this yet. Maybe you also don’t know Roach is under investigation by the Public Disclosure Commission for violations of RCW 42.17.020 and .530 for not reporting in-kind contributions and defamation violations in this race. It was elevated to the desk of the Director of Compliance a month ago.

The difference between her and I are- I don’t have a record, but I do have several letters of recommendation from the state senate and house on their letterhead. Pam Roach has five sanctions since 1998, and two are in effect as we speak. All of them on state senate letterhead.

Since your coverage suggests you haven’t seen them, or think she’s innocent, I have attached it for you. I assure you, the investigators, Senate Republicans, and the Republican staff, don’t share your newfound opinion of Roach. If you still choose to not cover anything about her relevant violations in office, ignore my qualifications and the issues related to this senate seat, you’re in for a big surprise this week. Tens of thousands of people will be getting the truth you refuse to acknowledge. Her they are:

Roach has two censures in place, I do not. Her next step is expulsion, mine is inclusion. Unfounded allegations do not make me guilty. This is not the Salem Witch Trials of 1690. It is 2010 and it’s time you collectively start acting like it. Hopefully the voters will figure this out for the sake of our district and our state.

Unbelieveable.

Matt Richardson
