Upside to the oil spill

I tried to come up with a single positive to the big BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

I could only think of one: I suspect we will never again hear someone say: “Drill, baby, drill.”

I don’t think even Sarah Palin would have the guts.

    Drill, baby, drill!

Actually Cheryl, there was nothing wrong with drilling at all.

That’s why we have government laws and regulations establishing standards that need to be met.

So, let’s talk about what happened here as well as the mine disaster a few weeks ago.

We have government agencies that failed to do their job in regard to safety issues in both instances. (Are you surprised?)

The question we should be asking ourselves is why didn’t they?

What about the inspectors? What about their supervisors who allowed these companies to continue to operate? What about the politicians (Dem or Repub) who received campaign contributions from the companies? Was influence exerted in favor of these companies? There are lots of good questions to ask.

We have all these regulations and laws to prevent incidences like these from happening. And, guess what, they were essentially ignored. That’s why this happened.

Cheryl, I hate to be the one to bust your bubble but here goes. Sarah Palin had it right when she coined the phase Drill Baby Drill.

Whats needed is more drilling and more Nuclear Plants, and more Clean Coal, more Natural Gas discoveries. If case you haven’t noticed there are Countries selling us oil that would like to destroy America and its way of life.

According to experts we have many years worth of oil reserves along our coast and enough coal to last us for years to come. At the same time we could continue with Green energy and Clean air discoveries until they reach a point where they are more affordable and possible to blend into our current needs for energy.

Sarah Palin with a very short but direct meaning about our energy needs actually had it right in my humble opinion, when she said “Drill Baby Drill”.
