THAILAND TIGER FARMS

A tiger is fed with fresh chicken bones in its cage at a private zoo in Ban Don Yai in Ubon Ratchathani province, 500 kilometers (310 miles) northeast of Bangkok Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000. If Chuvit Pitukpornpunlob, a candidate for Thailand’s parliament, has his way, tigers would be bred like livestock on farms and slaughtered for their meat, bones and skin. Increasing the supply of tiger parts, Chuvit says, is the best way to stifle a massive illegal international trade in the endangered cats. (APPhoto/Apichart Weerawong)
