Last night, many media outlets showed film footage of our soldiers watching President Obama’s address on the U.S.’s Afghanistan troop surge. The looks on our men’s and women’s faces told it all: They were happy Obama had at last made up his mind to support them by sending 30,000 more troops. But they could not comprehend why he announced to the whole world the exact date he would begin withdrawing those troops.
As President Obama proclaimed the U.S. would begin leaving Afghanistan in the summer of 2011, some of our soldiers were visibly shaking their heads. They were probably thinking, “Who on earth would be so foolish as to announce to al-Qaeda and the Taliban the exact time when they should go into hiding in Pakistan, and when exactly they can return to resume making war on the Afghanis and remaining U.S. and NATO soldiers?!”
