Tomorrow’s elections: Watch these races closely

While we should be careful to make too much over tomorrow’s off-term election, history teaches there could very well be trends. For example, in 1993, the GOP wave was obvious and soon paid dividends; in 2005, Democrat victory in Virginia and two Congressional races was a portent of their present state and national dominance.

Here are some races to watch tomorrow night:

1. Virginia: As in 2005, this is very important. Much has been made of the Democrats return to power in Virginia. If the GOP manages to reclaim the governorship, this is very good news for them. If they win big, watch out.

2. New Jersey: The GOP has not elected a governor in this state since the early 1990s. Right now the race is neck and neck; too close to call. The Democrats must win here to keep bragging rights.

3. New York Congressional District #23: This is a Republican stronghold that has become chaotic via a GOP candidate’s withdrawal, a strong Conservative Party candidate, and a Democrat who has steadily led in the polls. Now, the Conservative must win for the GOP to claim momentum.

Stay tuned…
