Hey, officer: Turn on your lights

Earlier this month when it was real foggy one morning, I ranted about how many drivers didn’t have their headlights on. This morning, it was super foggy again, and I decided to do something about it: flash my lights to let drivers know they should turn on theirs.

I was just about to flash my lights at one oncoming offender on South Tyler Street when I noticed the light bar on the roof. It was a Tacoma police car emerging from the dense fog with no lights on.

Sigh. I guess there’s no reason to try to convince people to turn on their lights in the fog when even the cops don’t.

My take

I am in no way condoning not using your headlights when it’s foggy but sometimes it is a lot easier to see through fog when the headlights are off.

Sometimes it is a lot easier to see through rain by not turning your wipers on, too- but that means you need to clean your windshield and get new wipers.

If you can see through the fog better without your headlights, get your headlights properly aligned- before someone can’t see you…
