Ohno Moving to Utah

Seattle speedskater Apolo Anton Ohno plans to move to Utah with the U.S. Speedskating team later this year, according to the Associated Press.

The team is moving from Colorado Springs to Salt Lake City’s Olympic oval.

According to the Associated Press, Ohno made the announcement Friday with his “Dancing with the Stars” partner Julianne Hough, who lives in Sandy, Utah.

Macartney, Spokane skier shine in U.S. Nationals tune up

From the U.S. Ski Team:
Olympian Scott Macartney of Crystal Mountain finished third today in the FIS downhill race at Alaska’s Alyeska Resort that set the stage for U.S. Alpine Nationals. Nationals races start Friday at Alyeska.
Will Brandenburg of Spokane won the juniors race.
Jeremy Transue of New York won the men’s race and Stavey Cook of California won the women’s race.

The United State’s dominated the NorAm championships this season. The top two skiers in each traditional discipline – slalom, giant slalom, super G and downhill – qualify for World cup starts in 2008.

Hey, if you want to see Olympic athletes compete against the best world on Network TV, good luck. You’ll get your chance every four years. But if you want to see them do something else, today is your day.

Nationals start tomorrow

If you think the Final Four is the biggest sporting event going on this weekend, you are correct.


However, as a sports fan I’ve always considered these next two weeks, as winter relents to spring, one of the best stretches of the year. You’ll have the Final Four, the start of baseball season, the Masters and for, the diehards, spring football.


But what event kicks off this sports fiesta?

Notes From the Olympic World

- American singles figure skaters cracked the top five at worlds, but couldn’t find a spot on the podium. Evan Lysacek was fifth and Kimmie Meissner was fourth in the women’s event.


- Canada beat Denmark for the women’s curling world title.


- Adam Malysz of Poland won the World Cup season ski jump title for the fourth time in a row Sunday with another victory.


- The International Skating Union says Los Angeles will not lose the 2009 World Figure Skating Championships. There was talk a TV conflict could cost the city
