Larway steals a point in the sixth and has a the hammer in the seventh. Probably too little, too late.

FIFTH END: Birr 9, Larway 3

Did you know in my old job I used to get paid to attend Rose Bowls and Final Fours? I willing walked away from that job for this one and now I’m following curling online on a Friday evening. If you were thinking of contacting me for career guidance, you might want to think again.


In any event, I do have an unnatural love for curling (although I’ve only played once). That said, Larway was only able to pick up one shot in the fifth end with the benefit of the hammer (the last shot). Not looking good for

Crystal’s Macartney Finishes 13th in World Cup Downhill

FROM THE US SKI TEAM:
Crystal Mountain trained ski racer Scott Macartney finished 13th in the downhill this morning in the first World Cup race since the world championships. Teammate Steven Nyman of Utah was the top American finisher, one spot ahead of Macartney.
Andrej Jerman won the race giving Slovenia its first downhill World Cup gold. Bode Miller, who hurt his knee at worlds last week, finished 28th almost 2.5 seconds off Jerman’s pace.

Newell has historic day at Nordic Worlds

FROM US NORDIC TEAM:
Andy Newell of Vermont earned the best U.S. sprint finish at the Worlds or Olympic level Thursday night, finishing fifth in the 1.4K classic technique to open the 2007 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships.

Torin Koos of Leavenworth was the second best American, finishing 22nd. Laura Valaa of Wenatchee was 24th in the women’s race.

TRL, bobsleigh style

For some reason the international bobsled and skeleton federations decided they needed music videos to promote their sports.


What they’ve given the world is some interesting Euro rock packed with cheesy lines like "Get your kicks from being quick" and "with blades of steel they leave their fear behind."


Oslo sings "Gold Kicks," the skeleton video. While Mink Rock handles the bobsled video "Racing on the Edge" (Which sounds a lot like a Mentos commercial).
