Holcomb Wins Another Silver, Second World Cup Championship

Holcomb

Recently crowned bobsled World Cup champion Steven Holcomb (Park City, Utah) won his second consecutive silver medal Sunday in the four-man event. He was 0.09 seconds away from gold. In the process he solidified his second-place finish in the World Cup standings for the four-man.


Claiming his 10th medal of the season also cinched up the combined World Cup points championship for Holcomb.

Here’s a look at how the U.S. Alpine and Nordic Ski Teams faired this morning:


ALPINE WORLD CUP (GERMANY)


- No American even qualified for a second run in the slalom this morning at a World Cup race in Germany asnew world champ Austria’s Mario Matt won gold. Bode Miller, who has a sore neck and hurt his knee in this event last week, skied off course on his first run.

Crystal Skier Leads U.S. in Downhill

From the U.S. Ski Team:
Crystal Mountain’s Scott Macartney was the top American finisher in the World Cup downhill race today in Germany. He finished 23rd. Bode Miller, Team USA’s top talent, who did not start because of a sore neck. Miller hurt his knee at Worlds last week.

Erik Guay led the Canadian domination of the race. Guay took gold, while teammate Jan Hudec was fifth and Manuel Osborne-Paradis was seventh.

Erik Fisher of Idaho was 35th and won the Warsteiner Best Young Athlete Award, presented to the top finisher who was born in 1985 or later. Fisher is

Bahrke scores freestyle silver for USA

From the U.S. Ski Team:
Two-time Olympian Shannon Bahrke (Tahoe City, CA) took silver today in a World Cup moguls contest at B.C.’s Apex mountain. The top male finished was Jay Bowman-Kirigin (Salt Lake City). He was sixth.
This is the last competition before the Freestyle World Championships Team is selected.

Stiegler gets first top 10, Mancuso sixth in GS

Resi Stiegler (Jackson Hole, WY) started 51st but with arguably the best runs of her career, she grabbed her first World Cup top 10 Saturday in Spain.
Olympic gold medalist Julia Mancuso (Olympic Valley, CA) was sixth today while Austrian Michaela Kirchgasser took gold.
