The News Tribune's Russ Carmack made this photograph at McChord Air Field's 2005 air mobility rodeo. The Air Force uses the biannual event to train crews in a friendly competition. It's cancelled this year because of budget uncertainty.

5/23/05 / METRO SLUG: RODEO In practice, as the planes ramp touches the runway, Tech. Sgt. Maurice Wijnen-Riem spots for Tech. Sgt. James San Agustin as he backs a Humvee with a trailer up the loading ramp and into the belly of the cargo aircraft, a C-17 Globemaster 3. Members of the 62nd Aerial Port Rodeo Team prepare and practice as McChord next month hosts the Air Force’s first air mobility rodeo in five years. The Air Force has been having these competitions amoung its air mobility crews going back to 1962. Usually lots of teams from other countries come. They vie in all the different air mobility skills – aeromedical evacuations, air drops, combat landings, mid-air refueling, aircraft secrity. etc. (Russ Carmack/The News Tribune) 5/23/05
