Joint Base Lewis-McChord on Wednesday is carrying out a daylong security exercise that could cause delays and detours for people who need to get on the installation.

Lewis-McChord officials said they took steps to prevent the exercise from causing delays on Interstate 5.  Traveling around the base is a different matter.

Tens of thousands of service members, retirees, civilian employees and military family members move on and off the base every day. They could find restricted access to buildings and disrupted customer service activities, Lewis-McChord said.

The exercise centers on a mix of security threats that could unfold on the base. The Army intends to post updates about the exercise on Wednesday at https://www.facebook.com/JBLewisMcChord.
