JBLM car crash victim belonged to combat aviation brigade

The Army on Monday identified a soldier who died late last week when his car crashed into an old and empty Joint Base Lewis-McChord guard shack.

Spc. Ryan T. Abbott, 35, of Grand Rapids, Mich. was killed early Thursday on Lewis-McChord’s East Gate Road.

Lewis-McChord police are still investigating what casued the accident.

Abbott joined the Army in September 2009 and was assigned to Lewis-McChord in August 2010. He served with the 46th Air Support Battalion, 16th Combat Aviation Brigade.
