On the day the nation remembered those who died in service to their country, the Pentagon identified the fifth soldier to be killed in Afghanistan in 10 days.

Spc. Vilmar Galarza Hernandez, 21, of Salinas, Calif., died Saturday in the Kandahar province of southern Afghanistan, when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device, according to the Pentagon.

He was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment of the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division. The brigade deployed to Afghanistan in April.

Hernandez is the brigade’s second fatality since it deployed in April. Pfc. Cale Miller died on Thursday.

Additional information about Hernandez wasn’t immediately available.

Obama has handcuffed the troops. This is Vietnam all over again, only worse. Just the other day I received an email from someone I know who is deployed over there. They got a call that an IED had been found and were enroute to deal with it. It was dark and while enroute to the IED call they came across another partially buried IED. They were in the middle of nowhere and through their night vision optics they saw two unarmed individuals hurrying out of dodge. It was obvious that they had just interrupted these two guys planting another IED, but because they were unarmed, they didn’t see them actually planting the IED, and the fact that on this mission there were no ANA with them, they had to let these two IED planters walk away. Try were not even allowed to stop and detain these guys for questioning under tbe Rules of Engagement we have in place. Now how is that anyway the fight a war?

Couple that with Obama releasing Taliban leaders from Gitmo and Afghan jails as good faith gestures, stopping all us special forces night raids, and stopping all attacks on Taliban and al Qaueda in Pakistan that originate fron Afghanistan, how in the world are our troops expected to win?

If we have no intention of winning we should no be there and Obama gas no intention if winning. Bring them home now.

Sorry for the couple of typos in my above post, but you get the message.

  4. Mahakala, The deaths of these young men is horrible and a terrible sacrifice. But why are you making a political deal out of it? OBL stated this fight, at least Obama got that SOB and has mopped up heaps of other AQ leaders, including this week when they caught some Haqqani network leaders. YOu might do better if you stopped watching Fox News.

BTW, Bush and Cheney started two wars, one of which was unprovoked. Blame them if you have to blame someone.

RIP soldiers, you will not be forgotten.

  5. Mahakala says:

Pandie. There is nothing political pointing out how Obama has handcuffed our troops with his ROE. Either fight to win or bring them home. It’s war for goodness sakes. If you have no plan on winning then you should be there.
