About 25 Washington National Guard soldiers are on their way home from a year in Afghanistan where they worked on explosive ordnance disposal crew.

The soldiers belong to the 319th Ordnance Company, and they served at different posts throughout Afghanistan. They were tasked with analyzing and attacking bombs, such as improvised explosive devices. The company previously had served in Iraq in 2004-05.

“We are very happy to have the 319th EOD home.  I congratulate them on a job well done, and thank their families and civilian employers for their support,” said Maj. Gen.l Timothy J. Lowenberg, commander of the Washington National Guard.

The soldiers are going through routine post-deployment checks at Fort Dix, N.J. They’re expected to arrive home early this week.
