A team of Army reserves based in Tacoma is wrapping up its yearlong deployment at the Port of Shuaiba, Kuwait, where it supported missions in Iraq, Afghanistan and Qatar.

Twenty-four soldiers from the 647th Port Management Team deployed to the port last year. Maj. Tim Monaghan of Tacoma, the unit’s leader, said he was proudest of helping to send home the 4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, a Joint Base Lewis-McChord unit that just returned from its deployment as the last brigade with a combat mission in Iraq.

Monaghan called Shuaiba the “world’s busiest military port.” He said the Tacoma soldiers  “worked 145 ships, handled over 75,000 pieces of cargo, totaling 278,541 long tons, completing all operations on-time, to standard, at minimal cost, and lately at an unprecedented rate, leaving our patrons and partners wholly satisfied.”

“After a brutal summer of heat and humidity, the unit looks forward to the cool and pristine green of the Puget Sound to recover and reflect on its successes and plan for the future,” he wrote in an email to The News Tribune.

Monaghan sent the photo posted here. He identified the soldiers in the photo as: Pfc. Thomas Bradshaw, Master Sgt. Dennis Warner, Sgt. Cuong Nguyen, Staff Sgt. Martha Parker, Sgt. Rachele Millick, Spc. Nicole Miller, Spc. Michael Obungen, Pfc. Aujanic Johnson, Sgt. Steven Fadugba, Spc. Gary Gray, Spc. Donald Newman, Spc. James Carr, Maj. Timothy Monaghan, Sgt. James Tyler, Spc. Branden Black, Spc. Rezwan Noor, Master Sgt. John Kelly, Spc. Sherwin Peters, Sgt. First Class Michael Lopez, Spc. Harold Quang, Spc. Ho Stalin Medina, Staff Sgt. Jacob Ranz, and Spc. Oscar Perez.
