Four fallen Green Berets from Joint Base Lewis-McChord live on in the memories of their loved ones, including some in the Tacoma area. And they will be in the hearts of a team of current and former soldiers as they swim, bike and run for a good cause on Sept. 11.

The Warrior Triathlon Half Ironman (1.2 miles swim, 56 mile bike, 13 mile run) will take place in Williamsburg, Va. Participants raise money for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, which helps provide a college education to any child of special operators who are killed in action.

The team with ties to Lewis-McChord is doing the grueling event in honor of four soldiers from 1st Special Forces Group. The men, all killed in Iraq between 2005 and 2007, were Sgt. Maj. Bradley Conner, Sgt. 1st Class Adrian Elizalde, Sgt. 1st Class Michael Tully and Sgt. 1st Class Nathan Winder.

As of Friday, the team had raised more than $23,000 for the foundation.
