Updated: Backups on SB I-5 reached 13 miles at JBLM air show

UPDATE 3: The air show at Joint Base Lewis-McChord is causing southbound backups of approximately 5 miles, from Bridgeport Way north to 48th Street AT 1:15 p.m. Backups three miles are also occurring on SR 512.

UPDATE 2: The WSDOT reported around noon that the air show at Joint Base Lewis-McChord is causing southbound backups of approximately 13 miles, from Bridgeport Way north to about the Pierce/King County Line. There are also now northbound backups of about one mile to Gravelly Lake Drive. Backups of more than three miles are also occurring on SR 512.

UPDATE 1: The WSDOT reported that by 11:35 a.m. the backups on I-5 extended approximately five miles, from Bridgeport Way North to about 48th Street. Backups also increased on SR 512 to three miles.

The WSDOT reported around 11 a.m. that the air show was causing backups of approximately four miles on Interstate 5, from Bridgeport Way north to about 72nd Street in Tacoma. Backups of approximately 2.5 miles are also occurring on state Route 512.

Reporter Cole Cosgrove called earlier to report that the air show being held at the Joint Base Lewis-McChord Air Expo Saturday was delayed an hour until noon due to low clouds.

He also noted at the time it took about 45 minutes to get to the parking lot from the freeway.
