Local veterans groups will dedicate their third memorial wall at Tacoma’s War Memorial Park on Sunday, using the holiday to draw attention to the granite tiles filled with the names of Pierce County residents who have served in the U.S. military.

The dedication event will start at 1 p.m. on the east end of the park, at Sixth Avenue and MacArthur Street, near the new Tacoma Narrows Bridge.

The speaker will be John Lee, director of the state Department of Veterans Affairs, with music by the Tacoma Elks Lodge 174 band and honor guard duties performed by the Wilson High School Junior ROTC unit.

A limited-edition coin will be presented to each veteran or sponsor of a tile affixed to any of the three walls of honor. More than 250 tiles are on the walls so far. Tiles are available by contacting Joe Zelazny of the local Veterans Memorial Committee at (253) 752-8266.
