Memorial Day is almost upon us, and for many Americans the occasion is much more than a three-day weekend.

If your organization is hosting a Memorial Day observance in the South Puget Sound region anytime between now and Monday, please email me the time, place and other details at matt.misterek@thenewstribune.com.
The deadline is noon Friday.

This News Tribune staff photo, by the way, shows Abigail Neilson, 8, who was among the students from Holy Rosary School a year ago placing flags on military veterans’ graves at Old Tacoma Cemetery.

My brother-in-law said the Veteran’s Cemetery in Los Angles is so large it runs for miles along both sides of the 405 freeway and is an impressive sight to see with all the flags up for Memorial Day!

  2. rosehaven says:

Rainier, Washington: There is an annual Flag Ceremony held on Memorial Day at the Rainier Cemetery on Monday May 31st at 11:00 A.M. All are welcome and the public is invited to attend. American Legion Post 264

(The Cemetery is located just outside the city limits on the Yelm Highway.)

Upon completion, we go to the Rainier City Park under the covered Pavilion about 12:30 P.M.for some good food. The hamburgers & hot dogs are provided by the Post with a pot luck of salads and.desserts.

Membership is not required and families are welcome.
