Lt. Gen. Charles Jacoby, the Fort Lewis commander deployed to Iraq as the American military’s No. 2 commander there, is all over the news this morning. He briefed reporters traveling to the Middle East with Defense Secretary Robert Gates about several topics, including interesting one about Iranian influence in Iraq.

“Iran still smuggles equipment and aid to terrorists across the border,” he was quoted by Agence France-Presse. “I find Iranian influence in Iraq unhelpful accross all domains — political, military, economic. The Iranians also continue to train (Shiite militia) leaders and provide them opportunities to come back to Iraq.”
